National Ice Cream Month

July 8th, 2014

Mitchell’s Chicago in July

It’s finally here! National Ice Cream Month (and day) both fall in July. Mitchell’s Ice Cream has been in the Chicagoland area since 1931, long before National Ice Cream Month even existed! We’ll be celebrating all month long, especially on July 20 (National Ice Cream Day). Stop in to our Homewood shop for ice cream, sundaes, and homemade candies or shop our retail ice cream at groceries near you.

History of National Ice Cream Month

National Ice Cream Month was started by President Ronald Reagan in 1984. He also acknowledged the third Sunday in July as National Ice Cream Day. According to the International Dairy Foods Association, Reagan┬árecognized ice cream as a food enjoyed by a wide variety of people. In the proclamation, President Reagan called for all people of the United States to observe these events with “appropriate ceremonies and activities.”

At Mitchell’s Chicago, we love ice cream and can’t wait for you to join us this month for a cold treat. Check out our ice cream menu to see what we’re serving up this month! For the entire month of July, our specialty ice cream flavor will be Apple Pie, and we’ll be offering some great candy discounts, too: get $1 off drumsticks and bananas, $0.50 off all sandwiches, and buy one get one 50% off all adult-sized malts!
